Since 2012, the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce exists to promote an environment for prosperity of commerce in the Brookhaven business community. We aim to be a comprehensive solution center for businesses to grow and develop — and our impact is growing. Today, the Brookhaven Chamber supports nearly 250 businesses of all sizes across greater Brookhaven.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Membership Director is the primary lead in growing and retaining Chamber membership by introducing businesses to the value of joining the Chamber and building strong relationships with current members to support retention efforts. This position is responsible for recruiting new Chamber members, strengthening relationships with current Chamber members, and increasing membership retention. This is a full-time exempt position that reports to the Executive Director.

KEY OBJECTIVES

  • Recruit new members to the organization by identifying individuals, companies, or industry sectors in the greater Brookhaven area that are not currently members.

  • Cultivate relationships with members and prospective members (including site visits to local businesses); and convert those prospects into dues-paying members.

  • Manage retention efforts of existing members by ensuring that current members have opportunities for engagement, are communicated with on a regular basis (including thank you letters), and are receiving value for their membership dues.

  • Identify and implement new programs and services that will be beneficial to members according to member feedback surveys and other feedback collection methods.

  • Engage members as volunteers to assist in the mission of the Brookhaven Chamber while reinforcing the Chamber’s professional image and member-centered culture.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • New Member Recruitment

    • Manage targeted membership recruitment efforts to achieve new membership goals as determined by the Executive Director.

    • Provide prospective members with membership information, perform site visits to prospective members and local businesses, and send appropriate follow-up communication to help finalize new membership sales.

    • Provide New Member Packets for all new members, including a welcome letter and other onboarding materials for new members.

    • Maintain and update a prospective member database in GrowthZone; invite prospective members to Chamber activities, when appropriate.

    • Based on the needs of new members, present all sponsorship opportunities to the Executive Director.

  • Membership Retention

    • Manage targeted membership renewal efforts to achieve membership retention goals as determined by the Executive Director.

    • Supervise retention efforts for first-year renewals, second-year renewals, and three-or-more-year (legacy) renewals; record all efforts in ChamberMaster.

    • Provide appropriate follow-up communication with current members (including visits to local businesses and thank you letters) to ensure they are aware of the Chamber’s offerings, member benefits, and engagement opportunities.

    • Communicate appropriately with members who have outstanding membership dues to help keep members in good standing.

    • Based on the needs of current members, present all sponsorship opportunities to the Executive Director.

  • Membership Programs, Events, and Benefits

    • Plan and coordinate member engagement events, including (but not limited to):

      • Ribbon Cuttings

      • Coffee & Contacts

      • Networking Over Lunch

      • New Member Orientation

      • Multi-Chamber Events, when appropriate

    • Serve as staff liaison to the Membership Committee, Ambassador Committee, as well as other committees or task forces assigned by the Executive Director. 

    • Work with outside organizations, vendors, and strategic partners to help develop resources that benefit members’ businesses and professional development.

    • Work with the Executive Director to evaluate member benefits and partnerships.

  • Administration

    • Respond to all membership inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

    • Generate monthly reports detailing membership strategies and accomplishments.

    • Monitor the 30-60-90 days outstanding dues reports; record all communications and interactions with members in ChamberMaster; 

    • Assist in the creation and update of membership marketing materials (e.g. New Member Packets, newsletters, membership directories, questionnaires, etc.)

    • All other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The majority of duties will be performed in the Chamber’s office and in the greater Brookhaven area during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. At program and event peak times, the position will be required to cover hours outside of the typical work week and work hours. Some travel will be required, as well as work on evenings and occasional weekends for events.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree in Business or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum of three years direct sales/fundraising experience.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and various business software (e.g. GrowthZone).

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills (written and verbal).

  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.?

  • Professional demeanor with board members, elected officials, and the public.?

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.?

  • Valid Georgia driver’s license and reliable transportation.?

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. as needed.

  • Occasional after-hours work required.

SALARY AND COMMISSIONS

  • Salary: $60,000 annually

  • Commissions: The commission rates for membership dues closed directly by the Membership Director are as follows:

    • New members – 10%

    • 1st year renewals – 10%

    • 2nd year renewals – 12%

    • 3rd+ year renewals – 3%
