Dean and Professor Stephen Craft, Ph.D. joined Oglethorpe University as Dean of the Hammack School of Business in July 2021. As Dean, Craft is charged with full financial and administrative oversight of the Hammack School of Business. Craft serves as senior administrator for all undergraduate business programs as well as is guiding the design and launch of Oglethorpe’s new Masters of Business Administration (MBA).
Craft founded Oglethorpe University’s student led investment fund and guided the formation of the Oglethorpe Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation which is poised to place the Hammack School of Business in the forefront of the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the Atlanta region.
Craft’s vision for the Hammack School is focused on enrollment growth; new learner-focused academic programs; growing an intentionally diverse faculty; experiential learning; career development; and stronger integration with the liberal arts. Craft is building far-reaching and interdisciplinary programs at Oglethorpe that will not only propel students into careers of distinction but provide the context for graduates to live an examined professional life.
Prior to joining Oglethorpe, Craft serve as Professor and Dean of the Stephens College of Business at the University of Montevallo from 2011 to 2021 as well as Dean of Business Programs and the Elton B Stephens Professor at Birmingham-Southern College from 2007 to 2011. Additional prior faculty appointments include Towson University from 2000 to 2004 and The George Washington University from 1995 to 2000.
Prior to academia, Craft spent years in industry engaged in product and brand management related to financial services including stints at Freddie Mac, First American Metro (bank holding company), and SouthTrust Bank. Craft has served as a consultant on over 200 research projects focused on strategic planning, organizational performance assessment, and strategy development for various organizations.
Craft holds a Ph.D. and MBA from The George Washington University in Washington DC and a BA from Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham Alabama.
